I spend the last weekend at Amanda's place again. I really like being there, because here family treats me like a family member and they're all very nice.
I arrived on friday in the afternoon, and we went archering (Bogenschießen) again. I think I got a little bit better since the last time. In the evening we went to an indoor swimming pool with the whole family. That was really funny. Later, one of Amanda's friends came over to visit us, and we talked a lot and played cardgames with Amanda's hostsiblings.
On saturday, we went shopping to the market. In the afternoon, a very latvian activity/work started: raking leaves. If you live in a city, you probably don't know this torture. Even if your garden is (compared to other (german) gardens) big, it's probably not even half as big as the garden of Amanda's hostfamily. Because they live on the country, and a lot of latvian country houses have immense gardens. I tried to compare with football fields, and I think you could fit a few fields in this garden. On the country in Latvia, the mostly collect a lot of leaves an a big hill, and then set it on fire. So did we, what led to the fact that we were raking surrounded by smoke most of the time (after this day, my clothes smelled as if I would live in a fireplace). We were four people, and we raked a bit more than half of the garden in four hours. Dear Latvians who do this every weekend during autumn: You earned my biggest respect. But even though it's hard work, for me it still was very fun. I like being outside, and when you move all the time you also stay warm. So I worked motivated until the sunset. When the darkness made continuing impossible, everyone seemed really happy. On saturday evening (Halloween), Amanda and I carved pumpkins. I love pumpkin carving. For her, it was the first time doing it, but I think she also enjoyed it. I'll add some photos of our pumpkins. The scary pumpkin (on the photos of the two pumpkins) is Amanda's work, and the one who smiles a bit stupid is mine. Later we went outside with the kids and put candles inside.
On sunday, we visited some friends of the family. They live not far from Amanda's place, also on the country. They like hunting, so all their walls are full of hunting trophies. In their garden they have a little reserve with wild boars. We fed them with bread and gingerbread christmas cookies. They also have a lake in front of their house, and I discovered a boat. After asking if we could maybe do a little round, the son of the family gave as little boat tour. On the way back, I had the (stupid) idea to ask if I could paddle, and I did, and my arms hurt for some days after that.
In the evening, we went back, and because there were some pumpkins left, we carved again. Unfortunately I forgot taking a photo of Amanda's second pumpkin, so you can see only mine, the one who is grinning very maliciously and has cat eyes. We discoverd that with a pumpkin and a phone light you can make creepy shadows at the wall.
That was a weekend full of action. I really liked it.
I'll add the pictures I took. This time, I took only a few because I forgot about it or had no time. I hope you still like them.
