Rīga Zoo

On 25th of December, I visited Rīga Zoo with my hostfamily. The Zoo is located in Mežaparks (the part of Rīga where we live), so we walked there.
It was pretty cold, but luckily there also is a tropical house, so went spent a lot of time there.
I haven't been in a zoo for a long time, so it was interesting, and a nice trip.

I don't really know what else to write, so I'll just add the photos which I took.

4 months in Latvia

Today four months ago, I left home.
Four great months. Sometimes difficult, and often confusing. But great. I'm happy that I did that.

Since I understand more latvian and know more people, time flies. It feels like I wrote that "3 months in Latvia"-post only a week ago.

And even more crazy: one more month, and it will be five months in Latvia. Five of ten. 50%.
That makes me sad in a way, because now I really found friends, I'm happy in my hostfamily, and I also do great stuff with other exchange students. But on the other hand, I'm already looking forward to meet my german family and friends again.

Luckily, I still have 6 months left, and I'll enjoy every minute of them.

Christmas

Yesterday we were celebrating Christmas.
In the morning we decorated our Christmas tree, in the afternoon we were cooking dinner and baking cookies, and in the evening we ate together. We had Moussaka, chicken, and I made typical german potato salad.
After dinner, we unwrapped our presents.
I had already unwrapped the presents of my german family and friends in the noon. (While skyping with my family). I felt very home for that hour.
In the evening after some presents, relatives came to visit, so we stopped, and celebrated with them for some time. After they went back home, we continued with unwrapping. After that, it was already midnight, and we decided to go to bed.
I like latvian Christmas.

Riga at night // Rīga naktī

A second post today, because I wanted to share a video with you which I filmed in Rīga during the evening/night. By the way, it's getting dark at 4 pm in Rīga right now, so I actually filmed everything between 4 and 8 pm (I know that's not really nighttime, but I would still call this time ''night'').

I filmed the whole video on 16th of december, when I met in the city with another german girl. We were walking around, looking for the last christmas presents, eating sushi, and so on..

In the video you can see two ''light-art-christmas-trees''. I don't know how to call them, but you will recognize them in the video (the tetris tree and the tree in the cup). There are a lot more trees like that in Rīga, and they're artworks by different artists (some of them look pretty strange). By the way: the world's first christmas tree probably was located in Rīga (there are different myths and stories about that).

20th of december

Last saturday, I went to an open air museum with my hostparents. There I saw how Latvians used to live in the past centuries. I personally really like open air museums, and also forests, and this museum was located in a forest, so I really liked that place.
I made some photos which I like a lot, so I'll add them.
